Chainlink is getting integrated on Polkadot, making it the first blockchain besides Ethereum to utilize the oracle platform.
Polkadot to Use Chainlink Oracles
Polkadot, a scalable blockchain for cross-chain applications and protocols, announced that Chainlink will become the first and primary oracle provider for all Substrate-based chains on the Polkadot network, they shared.
Developers building on top of the Polkadot protocol will be able to rely on Chainlink’s oracles to access “virtually any external, real-world resource.” This will also help them avoid the pitfalls associated with trying to deploy their own oracles, including delays and security flaws.
“The integration of Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network on a dedicated parachain can unlock multiple use cases on Polkadot. For example, a parachain optimized for self-sovereign identity would be able to reliably query off-chain data such as identity-based digital signatures or verifiable claims using Chainlink’s oracles,” said Polkadot.
This is a major milestone according to Polkadot, marking the first non-Ethereum blockchain to integrate this technology. The firm will be joining several decentralized finance projects and large enterprises, such as Synthetix and Google, that are already using Chainlink’s oracles as a service.
Now, the team behind this integration will work towards the the launch of Chainlink’s parachain, a simpler form of blockchain. It will be set in motion first on the Kusama network and then on the Polkadot network. This will ensure that Polkadot can use all types of off-chain data and systems to trigger contract execution.
